| The vertically presented 424 story titles in this illustrated bibliography appeared as newspaper columns in the 1001 Afternoons in Chicago series of daily literary journalism for the Chicago Daily News in 1921 and 1922 and subsequently for his own publication, The Chicago Literary Times, of which he was Editor, some of the time with Max Bodenheim. Each story has a Kovan number, which is the serial number of the story after it was alphabetized -- like the Kochels for Mozart. This alphabetical list enables researchers or readers of Ben Hecht as well as collectors of Hechteana to check their readings or collections against a definitive list and to order photocopies of the stories from Academic & Publisher Research at the Snickersnee Press. Includes an important essay by Kovan. |
